Artist Description

Artist Statement – Young Geisha

Young Geisha represents a meaningful step in my return to oil
painting after many years away from the medium. The inspiration for this piece
also carries a personal connection to my father, who served as a photographer
in the U.S. Army while stationed in Korea. Growing up, I was fascinated by the
photographs he took of the people he encountered there. Those images stayed
with me and sparked an enduring appreciation for the faces, traditions, and
cultures of East Asia.

Through the Geisha’s delicate expression and
quiet strength, I sought to capture a sense of grace, dignity, and timeless
beauty. This painting marks a journey of growth and rediscovery for me, while
also honoring my father’s artistic influence—an influence that continues to
inspire and shape my own artistic journey.
