Oil paints, brushes and a canvas
Artist Description
Copper Kettle
This painting holds a special place in my artistic journey as my first
completed oil painting after beginning formal oil painting lessons with my
teacher. Through this still life, I learned to look more closely at the effects
of light, color, and shadows, and to appreciate the quiet beauty found in
everyday objects that make up this fun composition. The warm copper kettle, graceful flowers, and simple
arrangement became an exercise in patience and observation, teaching me to see
what light and shadows can reveal in ordinary subjects.
Although this painting marked the beginning of my journey in oils, it
also reflects a theme that continues to inspire my work today—finding beauty,
and a sense of calm in nature and everyday life.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I’m an artist in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, whose passion for art was ignited at a young age through my father’s talents in fabric design, painting, and photography. I have always loved painting landscapes, and I found it was so calming for me to paint mountains, meadows, lakes and flowers and my first beautiful still life, “Copper Kettle” which I am so proud of. More recently, I learned to paint portraits. Very challenging, detailed and calls for a lot of concentration. But I did it! And just completing my first one, the Young Geisha, made me so fulfilled, I wanted to do it again!
For me, creating a painting is pure joy and satisfaction! I find inspiration in the beauty of nature that surrounds me, and I delight in the process of playing with colors and immersing myself in the creative flow.
