This is an oil painting on canvas. I primarily used a paint brush and palette knife to paint.
Artist Description
“The Float Maker” is the painting that inspired my new series that I’m working on titled “Pink Skies”. From the loss of my grandfather back in 2024, I’ve had this idea of painting how life looks after loss. Life carries on even without the people who mean the most to you and as an artist, I wished to capture these moments of life in paintings. “The Float Maker” depicts a man, in this case my grandfather, preparing root-beer floats. He used to do this for me and my many cousins every night when we visited him at his house. He’s working in his kitchen in the painting, however, the entire background is a sunset. Along with his root-beer floats, my grandfather was known for teaching my family to look out at the sunset every night to do nothing but simply admire it. It became a tradition for us to always look for the pink skies. Even though my grandfather is no longer with us, the sunsets are still there every day. This serves as both a reminder to him and a reminder to continue to enjoy the simple joys of life like pink skies and root-beer floats.
