Medium Description
‘The Shape It Took” is a fused paper collage. All papers used were created by the artist using acrylics, inks and various drawing materials. Unique textural effects were created on the papers using a variety of techniques: stamping, printing and scraping. The prepared papers are then cut or torn, arranged, overlapped and glued to the surface intuitively …creating a composition that has balance, depth, rhythm and a rich sense of history.
Artist Description
The Shape It Took is a collage constructed from layers of hand-painted and hand-textured papers. Built slowly through an intuitive process of addition, concealment, and revision, the work reflects my interest in how experience accumulates over time—fragment by fragment—until an unexpected sense of coherence begins to emerge.
Blocks of earthy neutrals are punctuated by passages of deep blue, olive green, rust, and vivid red, while printed marks, stripes, circles, and gestural textures create a visual rhythm that shifts between order and spontaneity. Torn edges and overlapping forms preserve the history of the piece , allowing each layer to remain partially visible.
The Shape It Took is an exploration of memory, resilience, and transformation…a visual acknowledgment that life’s most meaningful experiences are often not planned, but gradually revealed through the process of becoming.
