Summer Joy is a mixed-media piece painted on 140 lb. watercolor paper using watercolors and a black artist pen for the detail and line work.

Artist Description

Summer Joy was inspired by a postcard I purchased while on vacation in Montepulciano, Italy, in May 2025. It represents the bold and joyful colors of summer, of life fully in bloom. The tree dominates the paper, bringing a sense of joyful moment to the composition. Sunflowers are my favorite flower, and in this piece, they represent the sunshine and fullness of summer. I typically prefer a softer wash of color, but using brighter yellows and a deeper green gave Summer Joy the energy I wanted for the piece.
