“Portrait of a Cat – Napping” is one of a series envisioned to honor a pet. Although derived from a photographs of my own cat, they capture what all cat owners recognize as familiar poses. The great challenge is capturing the essence of a cat’s fur. This involved highlight with white charcoal pencil and shadowing with black charcoal pencil. Over 100,000 individual pencil strokes, each one visualized with a magnifying glass, were needed to complete this image.
