“Portrait of a Cat – Napping” is one of a series envisioned to honor a pet. Although derived from photographs of my own cat, they capture what all cat owners recognize as familiar poses. The greatest challenge is capturing the essence of a cat’s fur. Over 100,000 individual pencil strokes, each one visualized with a magnifying glass, were needed to complete this image. Additional highlighting with white charcoal pencil and shadowing with black charcoal pencil enhances the depth and texture of the fur.
