This plein air painting was completed in New York, while attending John Coffer’s “Camp Tintype” 2025, which he hosts on his farm. In the heat of August, a group of 40 – 60 tintype photographers were camping in a cow field in Amish country, in a weekend of artistic exploration. While my husband spent his days learning how to navigate the difficulties of the wet plate process outdoors, I brought my easel and paints – and set about to capture the countryside. I spent my days watching the cows move over the farm, seeking cool shade in the tree lines, with the distant Appalachian mountains ever present.
