Medium Description

Skeletonized flax leaves, wood, steel, gilding, wire

Artist Description

This sculpture is constructed from skeletonized flax leaves, hand-bent and wired to steel uprights anchored in a turned wood base. The leaves are arranged in a spiraling, upward-reaching form, their translucent, veined structure catching and diffusing light. Four vertical steel rods provide the internal armature, giving the piece its height and structural tension while remaining visually secondary to the organic material.

The work continues my ongoing exploration of transformation and impermanence — taking a plant material stripped down to its skeletal framework and giving it new form and permanence through construction. The contrast between the rigid, industrial steel and the fragile, web-like leaves is central to the piece.
