Artist Description

This wall-mounted piece is built around a found industrial metal basin, its surface heavily oxidized and pitted with age. Woven ribbons of skeletonized flax leaves move across and around the rusted form, some tightly coiled and others sweeping outward in loose arcs. A stone is set into the composition, anchoring the piece and adding a second layer of weight and history to the material palette.

I was drawn to the contrast between the found metal’s decay and the flax leaves’ fine, hand-worked structure. The rust carries its own record of time and use, while the woven leaves are shaped by hand into a countering rhythm of movement and repair. Together they speak to reclamation — taking material already marked by wear and giving it a second life through construction.
