Medium Description

These ceramic crowns began on the wheel for the base. Sculptural components were made be dipping floral forms into slip until a strength was achieved and then stuck into the clay base. The rusted crown was made by sticking rusty nails and metal into the clay base. These were fired in an electric kiln. The rusted crown was created through a process of adding slips and stains and some glazes and then fired again.

Artist Description

Historically crowns can imply a progression of time, power, political standing, gender, beauty, honor, authority, victory, family, status, rank, divinity and leadership. This group of crowns was created with our political world in mind, and is meant to demonstrate a temporal view of political uncertainty, especially the fragility of the crowns implying our fragile systems.
