Artist Description
In creating this pile, I sought
to fabricate an environment in which to get lost.
As I amassed this collection of
glass stones before you, I often considered how memories are often thought of as frozen bits of time that remain untouched in our minds. The
reality is that they change and morph as we recall them. Perhaps I am drawn
to collecting small mementos as a way to reinforce the memory of a moment in my
mind.
When I look at this work—something I have created
and continue to create—I see
each stone as a representation of lived moments, the accumulation of
experience, and the quiet weight of existence. As viewers engage with this
piece, I hope they lose themselves in the sea of stones, allowing their minds
to wander to a long-forgotten moment; that they go home and find that stone
from years ago buried in the back of a drawer and recall the comfort it gave
them when they first plucked it from the ground and slipped it into their
pocket.
