Artist Description
As an artist, I often talk about building layers and scraping them back. My paintings are created purely from my intuition and emotion. This painting, “Boundary Waters,” visually supports that. Using acrylic paint, brushes, mark making tools of various sizes, and paper towels (my favorite!), this piece emotionally fought its way onto the canvas. It wasn’t created in one confident burst. I feel that it arrived there, and that is what gives it emotional credibility. Look back at this painting. What’s interesting is that the painting doesn’t feel overtly joyful. If the turquoise were surrounded by clean edges and bright, complementary colors, it might. But the earthy browns suggest history, making it feel lived in.
