Medium Description

I work primarily in an abstract style, painting on silk fabric using references from my own photographs or sometimes purely from imagination. My process often begins with photography or digital abstraction, which I then translate onto silk using dye, resist, and layered painting techniques. Around these imprints, I build hand-painted compositions that create a dialogue between image, fabric, and color.

Artist Description

Having
lived in the Middle East for many years, I became deeply inspired by
its rich history, vibrant culture, and timeless artistic traditions.
The people, architecture, landscapes, and everyday experiences became
an important part of my life, leaving memories that continue to shape
my artistic vision. This artwork is a reflection of that journey—an
exploration of the places I lived, the cultures I embraced, and the
stories I carry with me.

At the center of the composition is a human profile, symbolizing
identity as a living tapestry woven from memory, experience, and
cultural influence. The intricate Islamic geometric patterns within
the figure pay tribute to the remarkable artistic heritage of the
Middle East. Their repeating forms represent harmony, unity, and the
interconnectedness of humanity, while also reflecting the complexity
of personal identity.

The woven silk strips create layers that symbolize the passage of
time. Each strand represents a memory, an encounter, or a lesson
learned during my years in the region. As the strips overlap, they
reveal and conceal different parts of the image, suggesting how
memories evolve, intertwine, and continue to shape who we become.

The hand-dyed silk background echoes the warmth of desert
landscapes, ancient cities, colorful markets, and the ever-changing
light that defines the Middle East. Together, these elements express
my appreciation for a region whose history, culture, and people have
profoundly influenced my life and artistic practice.

This piece is both a personal memoir and a celebration of cultural
connection—a reminder that our identities are woven not only from
where we come from, but also from the places we have lived, the
people we have met, and the experiences that continue to inspire us.
