Unfortunately, slavery is a part of human history. This
painting presents past slavery, with all its brutality expressed with scars on
the man’s back that bleed through and under the young girl’s dress as she becomes
the one wearing the scars of slavery, as she sits on the curb waiting to be
trafficked. We spend so much time talking about what we did wrong that we
forget to look at what we’re doing wrong now. This painting is about slavery today.
