Artist Description

Paper Lion is a trompe-l’œil portrait of my godson, Teddy, and serves as an illustration for a children’s book my wife and I are creating. The crinkled paper and crayon-like marks capture both his sweetness and his playful “ferociousness.” By pairing the formality of a traditional portrait with the spontaneous mark-making of a child, the painting celebrates the imagination, energy, and wonder of childhood.
