Artist Description

I enjoy going to the Myrtle Beach area.  I especially enjoy going to Brookgreen Gardens when I am there. The trees are magnificent. Using a grounds map was an idea starting point for me.  As I researched  Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, I came across archived aerial shots taken in 1966.  The map, the layout, the aerial photos, and the Huntingtons building a sculptural garden amidst past plantations provoked me.  I thought about trees and plants and the people who lived, worked and died there. What is old and what is new and what is continuing?  It all runs together; like swaying limbs of live oak trees dancing in the air.  I believe that trees are testimonials that the past happened, the good and the ugly.   Brookgreen is a place that allows people to acknowledge the past; to celebrate art and nature in a beautiful setting.
