Wild Child

3 layers of altered Yupo with alcohol ink sewn onto stretched canvas with gold thread.

I created this piece using a process of burning and cutting each individual hole into the Yupo synthetic paper. Because of the toxic nature of doing this I wear a respirator and need to work outside. Each large sheet takes several days to complete. This piece has 3 layers. Once all the holes are created, I paint both sides of each sheet with layers of alcohol inks and seal them. I decided to sew the pieces to the canvas with gold thread so each layer can be seen through to the next and it is secured in a very 3d way to the canvas.

I love the way each layer gives you a glimpse to the next layer. This reminds me of life and how we sometimes remember or celebrate the big moments, but the spaces between are just as important to treasure.  The gold thread holds us all together as confirmation that we are all connected.
