We are pleased to present Ryan Roth as the juror for the 2026 Annual Juried Exhibition.

Ryan Roth

Juror 2026

The Artists Collective | Spartanburg is delighted to welcome Ryan Roth as the juror for this year’s Annual Juried Exhibition. A distinguished painter, educator, and mentor, Roth brings a dynamic combination of artistic excellence, academic leadership, and professional experience that reflects a deep and sustained engagement with the visual arts.

Roth’s work is rooted in a strong foundation of drawing and painting, disciplines he approaches with both technical precision and a thoughtful openness to exploration. His artistic practice reflects a careful balance between observation and interpretation, tradition and contemporary inquiry. This nuanced perspective carries into his role as a juror, where he is known for recognizing not only technical achievement but also authenticity, risk-taking, and the development of a compelling artistic voice.

Since 2012, Roth has served on the faculty of the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, South Carolina, where he is currently Head of the Visual Arts Department. Prior to his appointment in Greenville, Roth held teaching positions at The Ohio State University, Denison University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and The University of Georgia. These appointments reflect a broad and respected academic career, grounded in both studio practice and critical engagement.

Roth’s professional experience also includes formative years in New York City, where he worked with Eli Wilner & Company, one of the nation’s leading antique framing studios. There, he contributed to the design, preparation, and installation of museum-quality frames for works held by some of the most prestigious institutions and collections in the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the White House, Yale University, the New-York Historical Society, Christie’s, and Sotheby’s. This experience provided Roth with an exceptional understanding of the presentation, preservation, and historical context of significant works of art.

Roth earned his Master of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from The University of Georgia, graduating cum laude, after completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts, also cum laude, at Valdosta State University. His academic achievements were recognized early on with honors including the Outstanding Art Senior Award and the Tammy Lee Fortner Scholarship, laying the foundation for a career defined by both discipline and distinction.

His professional accomplishments include a series of competitive grants and residencies, most notably a residency at the Vermont Studio Center, supported by multiple grants including the Metropolitan Arts Council Artist Grant, as well as a residency at Ox-Bow School of Art funded by the Joan Mitchell Foundation. These opportunities have allowed Roth to further develop his studio practice within nationally respected creative environments.

An active exhibiting artist, Roth maintains a robust exhibition record, showing work in New York and throughout the Southeast, as well as in international exhibitions across Europe and China. His ongoing engagement with the broader art community is further reflected in his participation in professional organisations such as the College Art Association and Foundation in Art: Theory and Education.

As juror for this year’s exhibition, Roth brings a discerning and generous eye, shaped by decades of experience as an artist, educator, and professional within the art world. His selections reflect a commitment to excellence, originality, and meaningful artistic exploration. The Artists Collective is proud to present this year’s exhibition under his guidance and to offer participating artists the opportunity to have their work considered by a juror of such depth, insight, and integrity.
