Hoarding is a mental disorder where one has difficulty discarding possessions which can lead to an uncontrollable accumulation of items that can compromise the use or safety of living spaces. This can affect every aspect of a person’s life and is often caused by trauma. In “Hoarder’s Porch”, I use my own childhood experiences as inspiration to touch on specific types of hoarding (shopping addiction, animal, paper) while telling a narrative through tiny details. Through stacks of children’s toys to the eviction notices on the door, I convey the isolation and sadness of hoarding situations.
