Finding Wings – A Survivor’s Story

Finding Wings – A Survivor’s Story celebrates the strength and resilience of a Domestic Violence survivor.  Excerpts from a survivor’s story are carved into the feathers creating the texture of the finished piece. The way the words become muted and indistinct in the sculpting and glazing process reflect how survivor stories get muted in the world. The swan was chosen as the subject of the sculpture as it represents transformation.  The intention is to focus on the transformation of a survivor’s healing journey and their return to wholeness rather than the darkness of their experience.
