Virtuoso

Dianne Neil

Mixed media glass mosaic on wood substrate with iridescent, mirror backed and semi transparent glass with musical notes adhered behind the background water glass.  The majority of the suit glass is painted on the back of the clear, textured stained glass.  Some of my artwork is adhered to the back of the front edge of the bench glass.  Shells represent the trumpet valves, with braided half metal circles adorning the valves and mouth piece of the trumpet.  The trumpet consists mainly of gold mirrored backed glass.  Pieces of solder balls are used for the shirt buttons.  Pieces of solder adorn the jacket lapel to break up the black.  My signature is in glass, incorporated into the glass mosaic.

Color, texture and pattern inspire me.  I love all of the unique characteristics glass brings to my mosaics, especially the iridescent and reflective qualities glass affords.  I love to pull in complimentary details to further enrich each piece.  I pay great attention to the shape, size and flow of each piece of glass I cut by hand. Grout also plays a contributory role in a finished piece, as I am always trying to please the eye.  One can attempt to choose glass for an art project, but the decision is really made as one is in the middle of the beloved journey.

My mosaics are made using stained glass, clear textured stained glass I’ve painted or adhered my artwork behind, a glass cutter, running and grozer pliers, glass grinder, grout and a wood substrate. I take pride that my skills evolved from my personal trials and tribulations, as I have poured hours of laborious love into each piece I have created.

I want to create mosaics that are intriguing and never bore the eye; that are full of energy, color and substance.  Art that can be respected and appreciated for the arduous attention to detail.  Art that is a touchable lifetime of beauty!
