Twilight Sentinel

Metal print, framed.

Captured at sunset, this image frames the historic Pea Island Life-Saving Station, the first in the nation to be manned by an all-African-American crew and lead by Richard Etheridge, the first African-American to hold the rank of Keeper of a life-saving station.  Bathed in golden light beneath a painted sky and sitting on shifting sands, the station stands as both a sentinel and a monument, a reflection on honor, endurance and often-overlooked stories that deserve to be remembered, a symbol of resilience, both of the land and the people who served it with honor.
