“Torn Mother” is part of a body of work titled “Unplanned Pregnancy.” The work explores what it feels like to become an unexpected mother and to see everything fall apart right before you. “Torn Mother” was created a couple of months after giving birth. It shows me holding my son for the first time after birth. The torn fabric and black-and white coloring symbolize the life being drained from me and the rigor of the birthing process tearing me apart.
