This piece draws inspiration from The Hanged Man tarot card, symbolizing a pivotal moment of suspension and profound change. Featuring my husband as the subject and set against the landscape of Huntington State Park Campground in South Caroline, the artwork captures the emotional intensity of a life-altering decision we came face to face with, together.
Leaving our home in the Midwest with a young child, we took a monumental risk by moving to Myrtle Beach to help my Father-In-Law who was recovering from quadruple bypass heart surgery with no support system available to him. This transition was terrifying and exhilarating and so very surreal. It all happened so fast and yet it was like we were watching our lives crumble away so quickly. This painting pays tribute to that transition, not just the before and after, but the powerful, almost suspended feeling of standing at a crossroad so massive – caught between two vastly different paths.
The piece embodies that fleeting, transformative moment of choice, reflecting the uncertainty, courage, and deep introspection inherent in taking a leap into the unknown.
