The Blackbirds Song: Still I Sing

Medium: Glass

$185.00

Created using hand cut, fusing glass and glass powders, I mixed the powders to form a glass “paint.” Layer by layer, I build depth and detail, for example, the birds feet and the detail on the branches. I fire each piece multiple times in a kiln at temperatures between 1250° and 1450° each firing, adds detail and dimension.

Inspired by the Beatles song “Blackbird”, this piece draws from the lyric “blackbird singing in the dead of night.” While the song was written at a  time of unrest, I’ve always heard in it a quiet strength, a message of hope, and the promise of change.

I hope to evoke a feeling of joy and peace as the blackbird sings his song into the night.
