Ribbons of Celadon references a 17th century novel by Honore d’Urfe titled L’Astree. This painting is an abstracted landscape where this love story may have existed. The character Celadon, a shepherd, was known to wear a grey-green coat adorned with ribbons. Celadon is the color of this ribboned coat.
