Artist Description

She is standing at the window when she hears the howling wind and she sees the sky darken instantly. It feels and looks like a night devoid of moonlight.  The trees are bending and soon she hears the cracking of limbs, now fear and anxiety creep in. She wants to close her eyes or look away but she can’t. Someone she loves is not home with her. Still she watches…

This piece was made in the shadow of Hurricane Helene. The storm is not mentioned but the depiction of sideways rain and the small space through which she watches we see fear, anticipation and hope. All shown in the eyes and partially opened mouth as she prays for someone she loves to return home safely. 
Still Watching is a portrait of that particular quiet vigilance along with the knowledge that her life will forever be described as “before Helene and after Helene”. Standing in a house she may lose and praying for safe return of the someone she loves she is Still Watching.
