Star Bearers

Barbara Dunn Rowe

I use a combination of thrown forms, slab forms and detailed handwork to build the sculptures.  I use both white clays like porcelain and raku, and stoneware clays-all of which fire to cone five.  I like to use the decorative techniques of stamping, drawing, lavage, and slip trailing to create interesting textures.  I prefer using transparent and translucent glazes that reveal the surface embellishments.

This sculpture depicts beings that bring light and hope into the world at this time of difficulty and despair.  Their eyes are clear and bright and their course is true and steady as they carry out their mission of bringing “enlightenment” to mankind.
