This painting uses a unique combination of oil paint and Japanese sumi-e technique. It is further enhanced with layered glazing. The artist had an introduction to sumi-e technique from a master teacher in Tokyo during a May, 2025 trip to Japan. The artist viewed several groves of bamboo on that trip, inspiring this work.

This painting was made with oil paint on yupo paper, a unique combination. Yupo is an artist’s paper made of recycled plastic. The piece was mounted on board using acid-free materials. The combination of oil on yupo allows the artist to use a Japanese brush and sumi-e strokes. It is framed with a natural wood gallery frame.
