ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist, I create sculptures that explore the intricate connections between humanity and nature. My current work features skeletonized leaves, which highlight the hidden beauty often overlooked in decay. Each delicate piece serves as a reminder that what we see on the surface can be very different from the true essence beneath.
I embrace the playfulness of movement in my sculptures, allowing forms to flow and dance in a way that draws the viewer in. This dynamic approach emphasizes the natural progression of life, celebrating the beauty found in change and transformation. By blending organic materials with expressive colors and forms, I aim to evoke emotions and invite reflection on our own experiences of growth and impermanence.
Ultimately, I create art to inspire a deeper appreciation for the complexities of existence. My hope is that each piece encourages viewers to find beauty in the unexpected and to recognize the profound connections that weave through all of life, embracing both its fragility and its vibrancy.
Spiral Dance speaks to the devastation and destruction created by Hurricane Helene to the mountains of Western North Carolina, where I live, and to rebirth and hope in its aftermath.
This is what I want to say with my art—Life is not always what we think it is. What appears one way can be shaped and manipulated into something very different. Celebrate the unexpected, remain open to change, and enjoy the process of doing both.
