Solace in the Gaze

Oil on canvas. In this painting I painted wet on wet and purposely kept my palette color very limited. I wiped out areas that I wanted to reflect highlights, and mid tones, and added more paint to create shadows. At the end I glazed over the painting to create a haze/cloud like appearance.

Solace in the Gaze, painted in 2024,  is part of a larger series called “Abundance.” It is symbolic of my faith with Jesus, a life with him is “abundance,” more than enough.

In my painting I wanted to reflect this idea by painting a herd of deer. You will notice that there is one standout deer that is grazing. I wanted one to be set apart, once again reflecting of my faith and relationship with Jesus. I wanted to encourage the viewer to perhaps ponder and see that we each have our own purpose and identity that matters  in this life.
