I couldn’t wait to paint these ladies – I find them ridiculously infectious! It’s like I could hear their laughter, catch a whiff of some coconut/pineapple concoction carried onto the mist from splashing water. It’s been an absolute pleasure!
As I was painting them, the word that was always present was “Sisters”. The ones that make you laugh so hard you have to clinch to keep from peeing your pants. The ones that you can ask the weird and slightly embarrassing question to, and know they won’t judge you for it. The ones that see your heart sometimes more clearly than you do, because they hold that magic mirror that gives you glimpses of your own power. The ones that you can snot cry with, hold space in silence with, conquer the impossible with.
I painted this to honor all my Sisters – my very special one borne by blood and who makes me want to do a little dance every time I see her, my sisters that I’ve gained through paper and laws that’s provided a richness to my life, and those that I’ve met by chance and design that I’ve claimed and am forever better for it!
