When my Grannie’s health was declining, my family would bring an orchid in bloom to her every few visits; following her passing, orchids became a symbol of frailty and strength. The flowers of orchids are often featured in my work as a recognition and remembrance of individuals I have lost. In this work, the separation of the flowers in bloom and the one in decay is furthered by the breaks in the wood surface.
