This painting is based on a plein air piece that I created in my backyard (in a hollow near the town of Boone NC). I was new to the area and I thought that the bright red leaves climbing up the tree were stunning. My neighbor walked by and told me that they were the leaves of a poison ivy vine. I completed the sketch, and then cut the root of the ivy as I am allergic to its poison.
