Sitting in a large woven basket of freshly picked vegetables, Lil’ Yellow Fellow with its beautiful leaves and threadlike green tendril just speaks a sweet hello from the summer garden. On the vine, curious curly cucurbits form an intimate relationship with whatever they touch, wrapping around anything nearby within minutes as it grows. This phenomenon has fascinated squash growers for centuries and that amusement continues today. This original painting showcases that wonderful anatomical behavior of summer squash with the bright yellows and greens of the tendril and leaves, highlighted by the complimentary colors of the vintage woven basket and the soft towel where the squash rest from the hot sun.
