“Land of the Three” is part of my Bodyscapes series where a person is laying beneath a striped blanket underneath a sky. My intention is to create a landscape while simultaneously using cloth as the primary element. In this painting, the body is seen from the feet with the raised knees most prominent. The viewer can see the covered upper torso and head below the stormy sky in the background. I was challenged in this painting to relate color from one stripe to the next colored stripe. This approach to color created a more atmospheric quality than I usually achieve. The “Three” in the title refers to the many triangles created by the draped cloth over the figure.
