We go through life accumulating memories from our experiences adding layer upon layer within the archives of our minds. Thoughts come and go, emerging from our history, some fading away, some altered, some clear, some cherished, some unfavorable. As I grow older early aspects of my life become more distant and illusive. Faces, names and places drift. The continuity of my story becomes harder to hold onto. If only I could see myself in a documentary on Netflix!
Fragmented Memories
Several glass fusing techniques were used in this wall art piece. Elements were made by applying several layers of glass powder of different colors to a glass base. The powders were sprayed with water and then drawn through with metal blades. These were then prefired to 1330 degrees. The round elements on the square were made in a specialized kiln called a vitrograph. Glass was placed in a crucible and heated to 1600 degrees. The glass flowed out of a hole in the bottom of the kiln forming a rod. The rod was cut and small pieces were applied to the square tile. The last technique was made by firing silver foil on a tile of clear glass. Colored glass powders were applied to the foil and then prefired to 1300 degrees. All elements were cut and placed according to the artistic design and fired to 1350 degree.
