One Saturday morning, my husband said something to me about the garden as in my vision was not going to be realized. I needed to prepare an exercise for my 10 year Master Art Series class, and this quilt was my result. The black, mottled hand-dyed background represents my mood that morning; our loved ones can move our mood from joyous to hopeless with a few thoughtless words.
The border strips at the bottom represent a foundation of bricks, a village representing home, and chicken wire representing a cage; sometimes during the Covid pandemic, being at home felt like being caged.
The three, large-scale dandelions represent my husband, the one with no seeds left, my youngest daughter, full of potential, and myself with my dreams flying away. Ironically, the seeds flying away almost look like people diving to escape their current situation. Like me, they want to be recognized and appreciated, and have help realizing their dreams.
The binding is my rose-colored hand-dyed fabric representing rose-colored glasses.
