This is a piece I had started years ago, yet I was never fully happy with it. It was a silhouette of a woman laying on her side. I felt really attached to the positioning of the woman, but something kept me from loving the piece. Recently, I have started working with gouache paints more and I decided to get my purple, silhouetted lady out of the basement. I was feeling frustrated, and full of turmoil with the state of our country and how it is to be a woman living in it. Using the gouache paint, I began to follow line after line that I did love of what was already on the canvas. By the end, I wouldn’t say I had given her a voice, rather I reached a visual explanation of those feelings I was holding onto within myself.
