My father was an inveterate punster, and an engineer. He taught me how to draw, to look at art, and brought me to the art supply store to purchase colored pencils with my allowance. When courting my mother, he memorized “The Raven” and would recite it to show her that he was more than just an engineer. Even later in life, he could still recite it, and of course, he kept punning.  My son and I are living proof that one can, in fact, inherit the ability to pun and to play with words.  Now I also play with fabric, can draft an entire quilt, and still use those pencils for sketching my next idea.
