Drawn In

Erika Strickland

Drawn In was created in an energetic live session and as an act of worship. The abstraction of the line reflects the immediacy and authenticity of the moment.

The main composition began with water-soluble graphite pencils, establishing movement and form. Acrylic paint sticks were then layered across both the background and foreground, building a conversation of texture and color. Large brushes blended the soluble media, allowing for moody atmosphere and hue.

Ribbed and sharp-edged tools were used deliberately to scrape through surface layers, revealing hidden “peekaboo” colors beneath. The final stage came after the event and keen observations.  A rhythm of repetitive pink splotches were carefully applied, offering a quiet counterpoint to the expressive energy. A clear varnish sealed the work, preserving both the spontaneity and the invitation of the process.

Drawn In was born on a Sunday morning, amidst the roar of high praise and adoration to Jesus. Created in real time as an act of worship, the painting holds the tension between clarity and mystery—sacred spaces we’re invited to dwell in as we enter His gates with thanksgiving.

Each colorful gesture reflects movement in worship—bold, discerning, and broken open to reveal hidden beauty beneath the surface.

This is your invitation to come.

Be drawn in.

To see Him.

To behold Him.
