When painted wet-on-wet, Beam paints have a lovely dreamy quality that stirs my imagination and encourages me to paint guided by the colors rather than my own expectations. For this painting, “Desert Sky,” I began with an Ultra Gray and “Wintry Sky,” a deep blue I then blended with shades of “Lake Trout” (a shimmery blue gray), “Timberwolf” (a deep gray), and streaks of gold to create the painted sky. The canyons below serve as a foundation to draw the eye toward the sky. For me, the sky represents vast freedom and unlimited creativity anchored by the reality of the earth below.
