Dance of Verdant Whispers

Selene Santos

“Dance of Verdant Whispers” captures the viewer’s
imagination with its striking abstract composition, offering a visual symphony
of color and motion. This captivating piece showcases an array of shapes that
twist and swirl gracefully, each intricately woven with hues of green, orange,
and red. Through the meticulous layering technique, the leaf-like forms seem to
dance rhythmically, inviting the eye to explore their interwoven beauty.

The artwork’s dynamic movement is enhanced by the
contrasting backdrop, a subtle light tone that amplifies the bold, lively
shapes in the foreground. Each form is carefully textured, with patterns that
add both depth and character, evoking a sense of vitality and exuberance. The
inspiration drawn from an orange sunset over lush green trees is palpable, as
the work captures the essence of nature’s vibrant palette and the serenity of
twilight.

I’m a
textile artist who is inspired by the world around me, especially by nature. I
look at my surroundings with inquisitive eyes and mind, with curiosity, knowing
there are hidden treasures to be found and turned into art.

My art is my
attempt to recreate the beauty of the world with fabric, a journey I started as
I was searching for a way to channel my creative side into something I would
enjoy.  This has become so much bigger
than I expected. It has opened my eyes to a new level of appreciation for the
beautiful world around me.  It has also
challenged me to learn new skills, to expand my creativity, to discover talents
I did not know I had.

My artistic
approach is mostly intuitive with a constant awareness of color combination and
contrast.  The use of strong colors is a
direct influence of my Brazilian heritage. Using fabric as the medium to create
my art pieces was a natural choice since I have been working with them since my
teenage years.

The creative
process usually starts with visualizing the piece in my mind. The second phase
is transforming what I visualized into actual artwork. It requires selecting
fabrics as close as possible to my vision, adjusting, and sometimes, starting
all over again.  It is a process that
involves many steps from beginning to completion.

I learn
something new with each piece that I create.
It is an interesting and fulfilling process that I enjoy and look
forward to every day.
