Constructed from a cardboard oat container, toilet paper and paper towel rolls, various paper scraps including discarded pages from old atlases and maps, cardboard box fragments, plywood, white glue and semi gloss water based polyurethane 

Artist Description

My artwork tells a story of renewal and reinterpretation. I was inspired by 19th and 20th century southern potters and their use of the serpent motif for impactful decoration and most importantly their use of clay and glaze materials, plentiful and abundant, found within local soils, creeks and river bottoms.I have reinterpreted the coiled serpent motif, not from the potter’s clay, but from the seemingly inexhaustible supply of cardboard boxes, packing materials and discarded paper products that surround us in abundance.This sculpture stands as my artistic endeavor to promote the repurposing or recycling of materials that litter our roadsides, overfill garbage dumps and unfortunately wash into the same creeks and rivers where the southern potters once dug their clay.
