Brotchen, A German Staple

Medium Description

My paper is Arches, Cold press 140lb. My watercolors areWinsor Newton. While I used the standard watercolor technique of layering my colors, I was careful in avoiding color to highlight some of the edges. In addition I used sea salt to soak up some of the color and provide texture. 

Artist Description

I believe every culture has some staple of bread, for German’s it is their brotchen. It is generally crusty on the outside and light and airy on the inside with a hardy flavor of yeast.  I came across this basket of brotchen at a bakery window in my last visit to Germany. I wanted to capture the eye candy of this delicious daily bread.
