Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing something that has been broken. A teacup or vase is repaired with gold in the cracks, making it more valuable and more beautiful for having been broken.

This painting represents how our sense of peace can be shattered. The model is a friend who got married and her husband was killed in a car accident 2 months later. Some relate our sense of peace to the solar plexus and olive leaves seem to swirl around when we are content. But when our sense of peace is shattered it takes a long time to gather up the shards and rise up out of despair.
