Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing something that has been broken. A teacup or vase is repaired with gold in the cracks, making it more valuable and more beautiful for having been broken.

This painting represents how a a human being can become broken in regards to their spirit. The lotus floats just above her hands because the connection to our spirituality is just beyond the physical. I cut the panel through her heart because I believe our spirit is right at the heart of who we are and yet we can heal.
