I often employ photo references and digital collage to develop compositional starting points for my drawings. While referencing the photo or digital alterations, I continue to transform the composition through the physical resonance of the drawing utensil, paper surface, etc. I take a great deal of inspiration from the flora and fauna of the region when searching for visual sources and the exposed rib cage of a roadkill raccoon became my subject of choice. This subject matter and working process allowed for an exercise in developing this unnatural, visual synthesis in Bones Humming.
