My mother was an artist and gallery owner who championed indigenous art from all over the world, as well as contemporary crafts. I grew up surrounded by examples of such creative work, both at the gallery and at home, leaving many imprints. Although the biggest inspiration for my own work is the juxtaposition of shapes, textures, and colors that catch my eye in the world around me, I also acknowledge and honor those early influences, and see them very strongly in this piece.
