Artist Description

Eyes open, a woman reclines on a pillow under a striped blanket with her cat beneath her elbow at the lower left edge of the painting. Both rest on fabric of hydrangea leaves and flowers on a yellow background. “Real” hydrangea leaves frame the scene under a purple sky.

This is the third in this series of showing features of the human figure. For years, I painted the figure hidden totally underneath a striped blanket. I now wanted to be less figurative in order to explore the relationship of landscape and a cloth-covered human figure.
